Report summary

A field trial in central New South Wales investigated the potential of TM Agricultural, a soil rejuvenator formulated with plant extracts to stimulate beneficial microbes in the soil. The product was tested on a barley crop. Compared to an untreated neighbouring field, the treated barley showed significantly fewer aphids, leading to a cost saving of $15 per hectare for aphid control. Additionally, the treated barley exhibited deeper root systems. Interestingly, a previous observation in 2007 noted that a TM-treated triticale crop in a frost-prone paddock grew 10-15cm taller, had more biomass, deeper rooting, and yielded 300kg/ha more than a neighbouring crop treated with conventional rates of MAP fertiliser. While both treated and untreated crops in the current barley trial yielded an average of 6 tonnes per hectare, the potential for increased yield based on the earlier triticale observation warrants further investigation.

These findings suggest that TM Agricultural may offer several benefits for barley. Increased microbial activity, triggered by the product, could explain the reduced aphid infestation and potentially contribute to improved root growth.
